Course Impact

First, I must say I was very happy to have taken this course in the summer as it did require a lot of time spent outside playing scientist. There were many times throughout this course that my eyes were opened to the responsibility that we have, as human beings on this Earth; things that brought me back to ideas learned in elementary and middle school. Sadly, many of these lessons are not aligned with the adult life of convenience. We have been brainwashed into believing that we need the quick-fix to everything, yet we do not fully understand the impact these amenities have on our environment. One very sobering assignment was to take an online quiz that would do a few calculations and then gauge how many “Earths” you use as a person in a year’s span of time (the goal being as close to one as possible). Painfully, not a single person was anywhere near one. We have to do better. I have since attempted to reign in some of the excessive water use, as well as implementing a few other changes to help do our part.
